We have been talking about 60 GHz for some time, and, while I’ve always thought it had great potential, it is only recently that the band is becoming attractive for multiple applications, for indoor and outdoor wireless, and for fixed and mobile access.
The confluence of new technologies, increased demand for fixed connectivity, spectrum availability and better economics is fundamentally expanding the prospects for the 60 GHz band.
I talked with Martin Harriman, the Executive Chairman at Cambridge Communication Systems, or CCS, about fixed wireless access and backhaul in millimeter-wave spectrum, mostly focusing on the 60 GHz band and on the mesh solution that CCS has brought to the market, initially in licensed bands.
